About
King of the World has been a fixture in the Dutch roots and blues scene for well over a decade. Founded in the Netherlands in 2012, the band quickly earned a reputation as something of a supergroup, drawing on members with backgrounds playing alongside acts like Cuby & the Blizzards, Snowy White and Matt Schofield. Their sound sits squarely in blues, rhythm and roots territory, delivered with raw energy and no shortage of craft. The lineup centers on guitarist Stef Delbaere, rated among the top blues and rock guitarists in the Benelux by Gitarist Magazine, and vocalist and drummer Marlon Pichel. The band has played major stages including North Sea Jazz, Ribs 'n Blues, Vienna Spring Blues Festival and Paradiso, and has picked up multiple Blues Awards along the way. A studio album featuring guest contributions from Matt Schofield, Shirma Rouse and Christine Tambakis shows the band pushing their sound forward, with more room for vocals and a stronger compositional role for Pichel.
