King Princess, the stage name of Brooklyn born Mikaela Mullaney Straus, made an immediate impression in 2018 with her debut single '1950', a tribute to queer love inspired by Patricia Highsmith's novel The Price of Salt. The song went platinum in the US, and a well timed tweet from Harry Styles sent it to a massive new audience. Signed to Mark Ronson's Zelig Records, she released her debut EP Make My Bed that same year, and followed it up in 2019 with her debut album Cheap Queen, which she largely produced herself, programming many of the instruments. The album landed to widespread critical acclaim. She kept busy through the early 2020s opening for some serious heavyweights including Kacey Musgraves, Shawn Mendes, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, before releasing her second album Hold On Baby in 2022. A multi instrumentalist with a sound that moves between alternative pop, indie pop, and pop soul, she has also branched into acting, making her screen debut in the Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers in 2025, where she plays the main role of Tina.
