About
Kokubu is a Taiko drum group from Japan that plays on huge traditional drums and treats every performance as a physical event. The music is all about thunderous rhythm, tight precision and drummers moving in perfect sync, so the sound is as much something you feel in your chest as hear. Their work blends centuries old Japanese tradition with the staging of a modern theatre production. Choreography is built into the playing, and the drummers' movements are as much a part of the show as the beats themselves. The group presents itself under the banner The Drums of Japan, and its large scale theatre production INFINITY is one of its showpieces.
