About
Also known as: Kommilfoo
Kommil Foo are a Flemish cabaret duo from Essen, Belgium, made up of brothers Raf and Mich Walschaerts. Their blend of kleinkunst and cabaret won them serious attention in the early 1990s when their fourth show, Plank, took a prize in Rotterdam and went on to play over 250 times across Flanders and the Netherlands. Television exposure through Mark Uytterhoeven's programmes brought them to a much wider audience, and they have kept touring Flemish and Dutch theatres ever since. Their song Ruimtevaarder, from the 2002 album Lof der Waanzin, has become something of a classic, landing high on all time lists like the Belpop 100 and the Lage Landenlijst. A 2019 appearance on the TV programme Liefde voor muziek gave them another hit with Stilte na de storm, a reworking of Calm after the storm by The Common Linnets, which reached the Flemish Top 50. The accompanying collection Oogst, marking 30 years of Kommil Foo, earned a gold record in Belgium.
