About
The Groot Omroepkoor is the only professional choir in the Netherlands specialising in the choral symphonic repertoire, and its programmes around the theme of peace show just how commanding it can be as a pure a cappella ensemble too. Paired with pianist Nathalia Milstein, the choir tackles a richly romantic programme built around works by Brahms, Wolf and Mahler, including Schönberg's late romantic peace hymn Friede auf Erden, which he composed in the years before the First World War. Mahler's Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen, which the composer described as a self portrait, rounds out the emotional core of the set. Milstein was born in France and comes from a Russian musical family. She began piano lessons at four with her father Serguei Milstein and later studied with him at the Geneva Conservatory. Winning the Dublin International Piano Competition in 2015 gave her career serious momentum. She is also a committed chamber musician and regularly performs with her sister, violinist Maria Milstein.
