About
La Grande Sophie, the stage name of Sophie Huriaux, has built one of the more quietly singular careers in French pop. Her concept of "kitchen miousic" says it all: she treats music like any other everyday task, grounded and unpretentious, which keeps her from sounding like anyone else. Her influences run from Jacques Dutronc to Chrissie Hynde to PJ Harvey, and that range shows up across a body of work that shifts comfortably between acoustic intimacy and full on rock guitars. She broke through properly with her third album Et si c'était moi, which earned her a Victoire de la musique and shifted over 130,000 copies, getting her onto the Olympia stage for the first time. Along the way she recorded a duet with Lee Hazlewood and wrote a song specially for his anniversary. More recently she has kept things moving, releasing the single Missive and collaborating with Philippe Katerine on Un duo avec moi.
