About
Also known as: Lamb Chop, Posterchild, Ламбцчоп
Kurt Wagner has been steering Lambchop's loose, ever shifting collective of musicians out of Nashville since the early 1990s, and the band's sound has never stayed in one place for long. Starting from a roots in traditional country, they have wandered through post rock, soul, lounge music and chamber pop, all held together by Wagner's lyrically subtle and quietly melodic songwriting, which American Songwriter once called "witty and deeply insightful." The band got its name almost by accident, after a legal dispute with Poster Children over their original name Posterchild forced them to pick something new before signing to Merge Records in 1993. The lineup has always been more of a revolving cast than a fixed group, but that fluid quality is part of what makes Lambchop so hard to pin down. They have built a substantial catalog of studio albums, live releases and compilations over the decades, and even served as the backing band for Vic Chesnutt on his 1998 record The Salesman and Bernadette.
