With over 12 million records sold worldwide, Lara Fabian is one of the best selling Belgian artists ever, which is remarkable for someone who built much of her career on the other side of the Atlantic. Born in Etterbeek, Brussels, she relocated to Montreal in 1990 and quickly earned Canadian citizenship, threading together francophone audiences in Europe and Quebec in a way few artists manage. Her 1997 album Pure was a genuine phenomenon in France, going platinum in under two weeks and producing enduring tracks like "Je t'aime", "Tout", and the anti homophobia anthem "La Différence". Fabian has never been content to stay in one lane. She voiced Esmeralda in the Quebec French version of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, scored a US Billboard Hot Dance number one with "I Will Love Again", and has sung in a remarkable range of languages beyond her native French and Italian. Her 2024 clip "Ta peine" shows she is still very much active, adding new work to a discography that spans chanson française, classical crossover, and dance pop.
