Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved" spent seven weeks at number one in the UK and then went on to top the US Billboard Hot 100 in late 2019, making him the first Scottish solo artist to reach that peak since Sheena Easton back in 1981. It won the Brit Award for Song of the Year, picked up a Grammy nomination, and ended up the bestselling single in the UK for the entire year. His debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent followed a similar path, sitting at the top of the UK Albums Chart for weeks and becoming the UK's best selling album across both 2019 and 2020. Capaldi blends pop songwriting with a blue eyed soul warmth, and his knack for emotionally direct lyrics has clearly connected far beyond his Glasgow roots. His second album Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent arrived in 2023, led by the single "Forget Me". He has a well earned reputation for being genuinely funny and self deprecating off stage, which comes through in his social media presence and makes him feel pretty unlike most artists operating at his level.
