With over twenty six studio albums spread across eleven different labels, Loudon Wainwright III has built one of the quirkiest and most enduring catalogues in American folk. His signature style blends sharp wit and self deprecating humour with a raw, confessional honesty that keeps things from ever feeling like a joke. His best known songs range from the novelty smash "Dead Skunk (in the Middle of the Road)" to the quietly devastating "The Man Who Couldn't Cry", which pretty much sums up his range. Three of his albums earned Grammy nominations, and he took home the Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album in 2010 for High Wide and Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project. Outside of music, he has clocked appearances in films like The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up, for which he also co wrote the soundtrack with Joe Henry, and he played a recurring role on M*A*S*H in the 1970s.
