About
Lucie Horsch has done something genuinely rare: she has turned the recorder into a concert instrument taken seriously on the international stage. The Dutch player released her debut album of Vivaldi concertos in 2016, which won her an Edison Award, and followed it up in 2019 with Baroque Journey, a collection of baroque concertos with the Academy of Ancient Music that took home the Opus Klassik prize. In 2020 the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science handed her the Nederlandse Muziekprijs, one of the most significant music prizes in the Netherlands. Her 2022 album Origins took a folk inspired turn, drawing on music from various composers. Then in 2024 she went even deeper into history with The Frans Brüggen Project, recorded with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and featuring actual recorders from the collection of the legendary Frans Brüggen. The instruments had to be carefully coaxed back into playable condition after years of rest, which gives you a sense of just how seriously Horsch approaches her craft.
