Maddie Zahm is a pop artist from Boise whose music punches well above its weight through stripped back production that keeps the spotlight firmly on her voice. Her debut EP leaned into that minimalist approach while tackling raw, emotionally heavy subject matter. The song "Fat Funny Friend" went viral and opened up conversations around body image, queer sexuality and faith crisis for a young audience that clearly needed to hear it. That track, and the follow up "You Might Not Like Her", established her as a songwriter willing to go to uncomfortable places most pop acts avoid. She first discovered songwriting through American Idol, where fellow contestant Catie Turner served as an early inspiration, and her writing has only grown sharper since.
