About
Malcolm Martineau is a Scottish pianist whose reputation rests on his extraordinary work as an accompanist, a role he has elevated into something genuinely artful. Based in Edinburgh, he has performed across Europe and North and South America alongside an impressive roll call of singers: Bryn Terfel, Anne Sofie von Otter, Simon Keenlyside, Angela Gheorghiu, and Frederica von Stade among them. He also regularly partners clarinettist Emma Johnson, showing his range extends well beyond the vocal recital world. His recordings are extensive and often landmark documents of the repertoire. Highlights include Schubert and Schumann recitals with Bryn Terfel for Deutsche Grammophon, Schubert and Strauss with Simon Keenlyside for EMI, the complete Fauré songs with Sarah Walker and Tom Krause, and the song recital Songs My Mother Taught Me with Magdalena Kožená. He also presented complete Debussy and Poulenc song series at St John's Smith Square and a major Britten series at the Wigmore Hall, both broadcast by the BBC. He received an OBE in 2016 for services to music and young singers.
