Mannequin Pussy make the kind of punk rock that hits you all at once and then keeps revealing layers the more you listen. The band, fronted by guitarist and vocalist Marisa Dabice, built their reputation on music that critics described as a whirlwind of moods and tones, capable of flipping between girl group melodies, shoegaze haze, and metal fuzz without losing any ferocity. Their self titled debut from 2014 was called one of the overlooked albums of that year, praised for its rare urgency and relentless intensity. Since then they have kept showing up in unexpected places. Early in 2025 they performed their track "I Got Heaven" on Everybody's Live with John Mulaney, a Netflix show, which brought them to a whole new audience. Their sound sits comfortably across indie rock, garage rock, and noise rock, but it never feels like a genre exercise. It just sounds like a band that means it.
