Few Dutch artists have come close to Marco Borsato's grip on the charts. He racked up 15 number one singles in the Netherlands, second only to The Beatles all time, and between 2003 and 2008 pulled off nine consecutive chart toppers, a streak no one has matched since. His 1994 single 'Dromen zijn bedrog' spent 12 weeks at number one, still the longest run ever for a Dutch language song. Borsato made his name singing Italian pop before his songwriting partner John Ewbank nudged him toward Dutch, and the switch changed everything. Albums like 'De waarheid' and 'Als geen ander' went multiple Platinum and debuted straight at number one, every eligible studio album from 1995 to 2013 doing the same. He collaborated with Andrea Bocelli, Dutch rapper Ali B, and others along the way. From 2021 onward, serious allegations overshadowed his career, leading to a radio ban in the Netherlands. He was charged with child sexual abuse in 2023 and acquitted in December 2025.
