About
Marike Jager has a knack for making music that feels both intimate and cinematic. The Dutch singer songwriter and guitarist from Amersfoort built her reputation through a string of sharp, quietly powerful albums, starting with her 2006 debut The Beauty Around, which landed her the Essent Award for young musical talent and kept her in the charts for weeks. Canadian artist Feist, whose Dutch tour Jager supported, called sharing the stage with her "very inspiring". Her third album Here Comes the Night took a notably bolder direction, recorded at Jet Studio in Belgium, a place where Edith Piaf and The Rolling Stones once worked. Grammy winner Tchad Blake, known for his productions with Tom Waits, The Black Keys and Elvis Costello, mixed the record and gave it a distinctly atmospheric edge. That album earned her two more Edison nominations, for Best Album and Best Female Artist, adding to a similar double nomination she received for her second album Celia Trigger.
