Few people have done more to keep ska alive in Europe than Mark Foggo. The Liverpool born musician has been at it since 1979, when he landed in Amsterdam and discovered 2 Tone through bands like The Specials and The Beat. That spark turned into a lifelong obsession: he stripped punk and new wave out of his sound entirely and went all in on ska, which has been his thing ever since. He describes his own music as "modern, bizarre, non influenced, up tempo ska", and his live shows are famous for his manic, boisterous stage energy. His band Mark Foggo's Skasters, formed in 1987, is where he really made his name. Their 1989 debut Ska Pig became a genuine landmark in the genre, breaking through across Europe and later getting called a classic by MTV Germany. Beyond playing and recording, Foggo has run his own ska label and booking agency, Skanky'Lil Music, since 1990, championing up and coming acts alongside established names like The Hotknives and Skarface. That relentless dedication has earned him the nickname "the hardest working man in ska".
