About
Mart Hillen is a Dutch guitarist whose playing revolves entirely around what he can coax out of a single acoustic guitar. His theatre concert The Big Six is built around six guitarists he considers the greatest, including Tommy Emmanuel and Mark Knopfler, and a set of six iconic songs he holds in special regard, among them Brothers in Arms, Stairway to Heaven, Hotel California, and Africa by Toto. He performs all of it instrumentally, on one guitar. What makes his approach striking is the range he pulls from that one instrument. He can make it growl, cry, and sing within the same performance, sometimes capturing the full feel of a classic track with just a handful of notes, other times making the guitar sound like an entire band is playing.
