Few bands have had as many lineup changes as the Michael Schenker Group, yet the music has stayed unmistakably theirs throughout. Formed in London in 1979 around former Scorpions and UFO guitarist Michael Schenker, MSG built a reputation on hard rock with serious guitar muscle at its centre. Their self titled debut cracked the UK top ten, and the live album One Night at Budokan, recorded at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan, went silver in the UK. A tour supporting Iron Maiden helped cement their live reputation before Schenker briefly dissolved the group in the mid 1980s. After a stint as the McAuley Schenker Group, Schenker revived the MSG name in 1995 and has kept the project running ever since, releasing albums under several related banners including Michael Schenker's Temple of Rock and Michael Schenker Fest. Their 2021 album Immortal was followed quickly by Universal in 2022 and Don't Sell Your Soul in 2025, showing no signs of slowing down. Schenker remains the only constant, his Gibson Flying V tone as recognisable as ever.
