About

Also known as: 伊藤美咲, 米希亚, 米希亞

Few Japanese artists have stacked up a resume quite like MISIA's. Born in Tsushima and raised on a diet of gospel and R&B training, she auditioned for BMG Japan in 1997 by singing a Dreams Come True cover, beating out roughly 3,000 other hopefuls. Her 1998 debut album Mother Father Brother Sister landed as the seventh best selling Japanese debut album of all time, and she followed it with a run of four consecutive number one albums on the Oricon chart, a streak that put her in rare company among solo female artists in Japan. The single 'Everything', released in 2000, is the one that cemented her legacy. It shifted close to 1.9 million physical copies and ranks as the third best selling physical single by a Japanese solo female artist ever. In 2004 she became the first female solo act to tour all five of Japan's major dome stadiums in a single run, drawing over 350,000 people across seven shows. With more than 20 million records sold across thirteen studio albums, she sits firmly among Japan's all time best selling artists.
