Three number one albums in Australia, a stack of ARIA wins, and songs that somehow kept turning up on American TV dramas, Missy Higgins has had a quietly remarkable run. The Melbourne singer songwriter broke through with "Scar" in 2004, which debuted at number one on the ARIA Charts and won her Best Pop Release at that year's ARIA Awards. Her debut album The Sound of White sold over 500,000 copies, and she followed it with On a Clear Night and The Ol' Razzle Dazzle, both also hitting the top spot in Australia. Tracks like "Where I Stood" found their way onto Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill, giving her a foothold in the US without the usual major label machinery behind it. She's also appeared in the Australian musical film Bran Nue Dae, and she takes her commitment to animal rights and environmental causes seriously enough to aim for carbon neutral touring.
