Montell Fish

About

Montell Fish built his early reputation making Christian hip hop and CCM music, then made a sharp left turn around 2021 when secular tracks like "Talk 2 Me" and "Fall in Love with You" went viral on TikTok and introduced him to a much wider audience. The Pittsburgh singer songwriter signed his label Lord's Child to Virgin Music Group in 2022 and released Jamie that same year, a deeply personal alternative R&B and neo soul record born out of a breakup and a desire to experiment beyond gospel. He even took the album to The Tonight Show, performing "Darling" for Jimmy Fallon. Jamie is the first part of a grief trilogy, with Charlotte following in 2024 and a third album called Marshall still to come. His sound pulls from Kanye West, Tyler the Creator, and Prince, while critics have compared him to Bon Iver and James Blake. He also records electronic music under the alias dj gummy bear, and tends to build distinct personas around his projects, like Ghost Boy, the character at the heart of his EP Her Love Still Haunts Me Like a Ghost.
