About
One of the key figures behind dub techno as a genre, Moritz von Oswald co founded the legendary Berlin label Basic Channel with Mark Ernestus in 1993, releasing records under a rotating cast of monikers including Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound. Before that, he spent the 1980s as the percussionist for German new wave act Palais Schaumburg, and later worked as an in house producer for Tresor. His 2008 collaboration with Carl Craig, Recomposed, showed his range beyond pure club music. Von Oswald also leads the Moritz von Oswald Trio, a project that has pulled in some serious talent over the years, from Vladislav Delay to legendary drummer Tony Allen. The trio released several albums through the early 2010s, with Sounding Lines arriving in 2015. On top of that, his ongoing duo with Detroit techno pioneer Juan Atkins, called Borderland, has produced two albums, making him one of the more restlessly collaborative figures in electronic music.
