Mr Heleen is a group from Den Haag making Dutch language indie pop with a theatrical edge. Their sound layers funky bass lines and jazzy chords under a strong lead vocal that pulls you straight into whatever story they're telling. The beats are solid, the grooves are hard to resist, and the songwriting has a habit of taking unexpected turns just when you think you know where things are heading. There's a real performative quality to what they do, somewhere between a tight groove band and a stage production.
