About
Mystery Jets started life as The Misery Jets, a name lifted from an Evening Standard headline, since their home turf of Eel Pie Island sits right under the Heathrow flight path. A misspelling while painting a drum skin turned it into Mystery Jets, and the name stuck. Early on, Blaine Harrison's dad Henry was in the band, and they threw their own parties on the island until the police shut them down. The sound has shifted over the years. Their debut Making Dens leaned psychedelic and prog, with Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd among the touchstones. By second album Twenty One, produced by Erol Alkan, they had moved toward pop, with singles like Young Love featuring Laura Marling and Two Doors Down, which reached 24 in the UK charts. They signed to Rough Trade and followed up with Serotonin, produced by Chris Thomas.
