About
Also known as: Nathaniel David Rateliff, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Wheel, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweat, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats
Nathaniel Rateliff spent years building a reputation in Denver as a quietly devastating folk and Americana songwriter, but everything shifted when he pivoted to soul and R&B with his backing band the Night Sweats. Their 2015 self titled debut on Stax Records, anchored by the rowdy breakout track S.O.B., was reportedly a last ditch attempt before quitting music entirely. It went viral instead. The Night Sweats bring a full live sound with keys, horns, and a tight rhythm section, and the follow up album Tearing at the Seams debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 in 2018. Rateliff also keeps a solo lane open, blending folk, indie folk, and soul in a more stripped back setting. His solo record And It's Still Alright came out in early 2020 via Stax, his first solo full length in nearly seven years. He has also written for film, contributing the song Redemption to the Apple Original film Palmer.
