When Noel Gallagher walked out on Oasis in 2009, he wasted little time turning that split into something new. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds launched in 2011 with a self titled debut that shot straight to number one on the UK Albums Chart, shifting over 122,000 copies in its first week. That record featured singles like "If I Had a Gun...", "AKA... What a Life!", and "The Death of You and Me". The touring band draws on familiar faces, including former Oasis members Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock, plus Russell Pritchard from The Zutons on bass. The project has grown well beyond a one off solo venture. Chasing Yesterday followed in 2015, then Who Built the Moon? in 2017, a record that leaned into a more psychedelic direction. Three EPs came between 2019 and 2020, and the fourth studio album Council Skies arrived in June 2023. Collaborators over the years have included Johnny Marr and Paul Weller, and the band name itself draws inspiration from Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and the Jefferson Airplane song "High Flying Bird".
