About
Nora Fischer is a Dutch mezzo soprano who built her reputation on tearing down the walls between early music and the contemporary world. Her debut album Hush, released in 2018, pairs 17th century songs by Monteverdi, Purcell and Dowland with electric guitar from Marnix Dorrestein, landing somewhere between melancholic lullaby and funky groove. It won the Edison Klassiek award in the category De Ontdekking, with the jury praising the way she translates baroque repertoire for modern ears. Her range goes well beyond the studio. She has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Kronos Quartet and Yo Yo Ma's Silkroad ensemble, and appeared at venues from the Philharmonie de Paris to the Walt Disney Concert Hall, as well as festivals like Lowlands and Oerol. Composers including Louis Andriessen, Osvaldo Golijov, David Lang and Michel van der Aa have written works specifically for her. After stepping away from her singing career due to serious vocal problems, she found new creative outlets and in 2025 published an autobiographical book about that difficult period.
