About

Northcote is the moniker of Canadian singer, songwriter, and guitarist Matthew Daniel Goud, and the voice alone tells you a lot: people reach for Bruce Springsteen, Joe Cocker, and Peter Gabriel when trying to describe it, which makes sense given that Goud came up through post hardcore before finding his way to rootsy, heartfelt songwriting. His earlier band Means was a fixture of the Canadian underground post hardcore scene and even signed to California's Facedown Records, but Goud eventually traded that world for acoustic solo shows and a whole new direction. Since then, Northcote has put out six studio albums, starting with the debut EP recorded in the back of a yoga studio in Regina and building through records like Gather No Dust, a self titled album written in a van along the Victoria waterfront, Hope Is Made of Steel, and Let Me Roar in 2020. He has toured extensively across Canada, Europe and the US, sharing stages with Frank Turner, The Gaslight Anthem, Chuck Ragan, and Dave Hause, among many others. Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music personally invited him onto the Revival Tour, which says plenty about the company Northcote keeps.
