About
Opus13 Quartet named themselves after the first piece they ever played together: Mendelssohn's youthful String Quartet in A minor, Op. 13, and that work remains central to everything they do. Founded in Oslo in 2014, the group quickly built a reputation on the European chamber music circuit, winning first prize at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition in London and taking top honours at the international string quartet competition in Bordeaux. They have shared the stage with artists including Anne Sofie von Otter, Alisa Weilerstein and Olli Mustonen. Their programmes draw on a wide quartet repertoire, pairing the classical canon with contemporary work. Schubert's Death and the Maiden sits alongside Mendelssohn in their rotation, and Janáček's Second String Quartet, a piece soaked in late romantic longing, features regularly too. Fast competition wins and a boldly chosen repertoire have made them one of the more compelling young quartets working today.
