About
Also known as: レイフ・オヴェ・ハンスネス
Leif Ove Andsnes is one of those pianists who can make you care deeply about music you thought you already knew. The Norwegian pianist from Karmøy has built a reputation across chamber music and classical piano, and is particularly celebrated as a champion of Edvard Grieg, whose Piano Concerto he performed at the Last Night of the Proms in 2002. His discography spans Virgin, EMI, and Sony Classical, with recordings of Rachmaninov, Schubert, Bartók, and more. His most ambitious project to date was the Beethoven Journey, a multi year collaboration with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra covering all five piano concertos and the Choral Fantasy, recorded between 2012 and 2014. The recordings with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra went on to win both the Concerto Award and the Recording of the Year from BBC Music Magazine in 2015. He co founded the Risør Festival of Chamber Music in 1991, served as its artistic director for nearly two decades, and is a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
