About

Bertrand Chamayou is the only pianist to have won the French Victoire de la Musique Classique three times, a record that says a lot about where he stands among his peers. The Toulouse born musician has built a reputation for deeply considered playing, shaped in part by years of close work with Murray Perahia, whose influence he openly acknowledges. His 2016 double album of Ravel's complete solo piano works, recorded back in his hometown, drew genuine excitement from critics, with Gramophone praising its "breathtaking beauty." In 2019, his Saint Saëns Piano Concertos recording with the French National Orchestra went on to win Gramophone's Recording of the Year. Chamayou is equally at home in chamber music, regularly playing alongside the Capuçon brothers, Quatuor Ebène, and Sol Gabetta, among others. His more recent recordings show a restless curiosity: a 2023 album explored piano works by Satie, John Cage, and James Tenney, followed by a project entirely devoted to Cage in 2024. He also performs across major international venues and festivals, from the Wigmore Hall to the Lucerne Festival.
