Few pianists carry the kind of technical reputation that Arcadi Volodos does. The Russian pianist is known for tackling some of the most demanding repertoire around, particularly the works of Rachmaninoff and Liszt, and his recordings of Vladimir Horowitz transcriptions have drawn serious praise. Producer Thomas Frost, who worked with Horowitz himself, described Volodos as having everything: imagination, colour, passion, and a phenomenal technique to bring his ideas to life. Volodos has also made a name for himself as a transcriber in his own right. His version of Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca, loaded with seemingly impossible countermelodies and passages, is a favourite encore piece. He is widely seen as someone who breathed new life into Horowitz's arrangements of Bizet's Carmen and Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies. His discography on Sony Classical spans solo recitals, live recordings at Carnegie Hall, and concerto work with Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky.
