About
Winning the Geneva International Music Competition in 1990 announced Nelson Goerner as one of classical piano's serious voices, but the Argentine pianist had already signalled his potential four years earlier by taking first prize at the Franz Liszt Competition in Buenos Aires. That early win brought him a scholarship to study with Maria Tipo at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève, and Europe never really let him go after that. Goerner has since performed with an impressive spread of orchestras, from the Orchestre de Paris and the Los Angeles Philharmonic to the Mariinsky Orchestra and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, working alongside conductors including Esa Pekka Salonen, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Philippe Herreweghe and Fabio Luisi. His recordings cover a wide repertoire including Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Debussy, Rachmaninoff and Paderewski, and he has shared chamber music stages with artists like Martha Argerich, Steven Isserlis and Sol Gabetta.
