Few violinists bring the kind of electricity to classical repertoire that Janine Jansen does. The Dutch violinist has drawn standing ovations at venues like the Berlin Philharmonic's Waldbühne in front of 25,000 people and a sold out Walt Disney Concert Hall with the LA Philharmonic, and she opened the BBC Proms in 2005. She has played some of the most storied instruments in existence, including multiple Stradivari violins, and in 2020 she was gifted use of the 1715 Stradivari 'Rode, Duke of Cambridge' by a European benefactor. Her discography covers a lot of ground, from a widely downloaded chamber version of Vivaldi's Four Seasons to concertos by Beethoven and Britten conducted by Paavo Järvi, to a Prokofiev album with the London Philharmonic under Vladimir Jurowski. She runs her own chamber music festival in Utrecht and has been part of Spectrum Concerts Berlin since 1998. Her work with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra earned her the Johannes Vermeer Award, one of the top honours in Dutch cultural life.
