About
Rachel Podger is one of the most compelling voices in baroque violin playing, equally at home as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor leading from the instrument. Her recording of Vivaldi's La Stravaganza with Arte dei Suonatori won Gramophone's Best Baroque Recording of 2003, and her take on Le quattro stagioni hit number one in the UK classical album chart. Bach's complete solo sonatas and partitas earned a top recommendation from BBC Radio 3's Building a Library, cementing her reputation as one of the definitive interpreters of that repertoire. She plays a 1739 Genoa violin by Pesarinius, a student of Stradivari, and records for Channel Classics. Beyond performing, Podger holds professorships at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and the Royal Danish Academy of Music. She also co founded the Brecon Baroque Festival in 2006, which runs annually each October in Mid Wales, and supports young musicians through the Mozart Music Fund she set up the same year.
