Lisa Batiashvili is one of the most compelling violinists working today, known for a silky tone and a precision of articulation that draws comparisons to the great soloists of an earlier era. The Georgian born musician plays a 1739 Guarneri del Gesu, and her repertoire ranges from Bach to newly commissioned works written specifically for her. Magnus Lindberg wrote his violin concerto for her, and she and her husband, oboist François Leleux, commissioned Georgian composer Giya Kancheli to write Broken Chant, a double concerto the two of them premiered with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She has collaborated with an extraordinary roll call of conductors, from Daniel Barenboim and Simon Rattle to Kirill Petrenko and Esa Pekka Salonen, and she served as artist in residence with the New York Philharmonic, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Her recordings span Sony Classical and Deutsche Grammophon, covering concertos by Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Prokofiev, Brahms and Lindberg, among others.
