Paolo Nutini has a knack for defying expectations. The Scottish singer songwriter from Paisley built his reputation on a soul drenched folk pop sound, but each of his four studio albums has taken a sharp left turn from the last. His 2006 debut These Streets went quintuple platinum and charted at number three in the UK, while the follow up Sunny Side Up hit number one in 2009 with a joyful mix of soul, country, folk and ragtime swing. Five years passed before Caustic Love arrived in 2014, debuting at number one and earning strong reviews. He then went quiet for another eight years before returning with Last Night in the Bittersweet in July 2022. Live, Nutini has always punched well above his weight, sharing stages with the Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse and Led Zeppelin's historic 2007 Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert. He has collected three BRIT Award nominations and an Ivor Novello nod for his songwriting, and the breadth of his influences, from blues to indie rock to folk, keeps each record feeling like a fresh chapter rather than more of the same.
