Pat Benatar built one of the most formidable catalogues in rock, racking up four consecutive Grammy Awards for best female rock vocal performance between 1980 and 1984, two multi platinum US albums, and over 36 million records sold worldwide. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Her 1980 album Crimes of Passion, which peaked at No. 2 in both the US and Canada, is her commercial peak, and its single "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" remains her signature track. But "Love Is a Battlefield" might be the song people remember most, a 1983 smash that hit No. 1 in the Netherlands and Australia and cracked the US top five. Albums like Precious Time and Wide Awake in Dreamland showed she could keep reinventing her sound while still delivering the hard rock goods her fans came for.
