Few records redefine a career the way Graceland did for Paul Simon. Released in 1986, it wove South African sounds into his songwriting and produced one of his most beloved singles, "You Can Call Me Al". Before that, he had already built a formidable catalogue both as one half of Simon & Garfunkel, whose Bridge over Troubled Water is among the best selling albums of all time, and as a solo act with hits like "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" and "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard". As a solo artist, Simon has consistently refused to stand still, pulling in gospel, reggae, soul, and Brazilian roots music across decades of albums. The Rhythm of the Saints followed Graceland's worldly approach, and later records like So Beautiful or So What and Stranger to Stranger kept finding new audiences. His most recent album, Seven Psalms, arrived in 2023. Along the way he has won 16 Grammy Awards and earned two separate inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
