About
Peter Somuah is a trumpeter and composer from Ghana whose music sits where contemporary jazz meets his Ghanese roots. His sound pulls from jazz, soul, gospel, highlife and West African rhythms, and he's equally at home writing for the screen as for the stage. One of the more unusual projects on his résumé is a live score for The Burial of Kojo, the 2018 debut feature by Ghanaian filmmaker and musician Blitz Bazawule. He built the music especially for that screening and performed it alongside vocalists Latanya Alberto, whose style leans warm and poetic neo soul, and MiDi KwaKwa, who works in an Afro inspired alternative r&b mode. The result is film and live music talking to each other in real time.
