Planetary Assault Systems is one of the key aliases of English techno producer and DJ Luke Slater, originally from Reading. Under this name he has been releasing music on labels like Peacefrog Records, Ostgut Ton, and Mote Evolver since the late 1990s, building a catalogue that runs from the relentless machine funk of The Electric Funk Machine and The Drone Sector through to the harder, more industrial textures of Arc Angel in 2016. The project went quiet for most of the 2000s while Slater focused on other work, but Temporary Suspension in 2009 marked a serious return to form. Slater is nothing if not prolific: he records under more than ten different names, each one a distinct creative direction. Planetary Assault Systems sits firmly at the techno end of that spectrum, stripped back and club focused, and it remains the alias he is best known for. Recent releases under the name include Plantae and Sky Scraping, showing the project is still very much active.
