Few artists have blurred the line between performance art and pop music quite like Poppy. Starting out with deeply unsettling YouTube videos that cast her as an uncanny, android like figure satirizing internet culture, she built a cult following before pivoting hard into heavy metal territory. Her third album, I Disagree, was the turning point that put her on the Billboard 200 and landed her a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance with the single "Bloodmoney", making her the first solo female artist ever nominated in that category. She followed that up by guesting on tracks with Bad Omens and Knocked Loose, the latter earning her a second Grammy nod in the same category. Her sixth album, Negative Spaces, brought a critical resurgence, and her seventh, Empty Hands, secured a second Billboard 200 entry. Versatile is an understatement.
