About
Ra Ra Riot got noticed fast. Within six months of forming at Syracuse University in 2006, their energetic live show landed them a spot at the CMJ Music Marathon, and Spin was calling them one of the best young bands it had heard in a long time. Their debut album, The Rhumb Line, arrived in 2008 on Barsuk, followed by The Orchard in 2010, with a mix from Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla and one from Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij. The sound has shifted over the years. Strings and baroque pop defined the early records, then Beta Love in 2013 pushed the band toward synthpop. Rostam came back as producer and co writer on Need Your Light in 2016, including the single "Water", and again on 2019's Superbloom. Their song "Boy" turned up in a Honda Civic ad and on shows like Royal Pains and Shameless. In 2024 they put out "The Wish", their first new song in five years.
