About
Ralph van Raat is a Dutch pianist specialising in minimal music, with a repertoire that centres on the works of composers such as John Adams, Steve Reich and Philip Glass. He performs alongside violinist Rosanne Philippens and soprano Laura Bohn in a programme that brings together some of the most celebrated pieces from this tradition. The evening opens with Adams' Road Movies, a work that balances rhythmic drive with open, lyrical writing, before moving into a recently authorised solo piano and electronics version of Reich's Six Pianos, a setting that gives the layered patterns fresh clarity and intensity. Van Raat then turns to a selection of Glass' virtuosic etudes, music that manages to be transparent, hypnotic and expressive all at once, before the programme closes with arias from Adams' operas.
