About
Reik built their name on sweeping Latin pop ballads out of Mexicali, Mexico, before pulling off one of the more interesting genre pivots in recent Latin music. The trio, made up of vocalist Jesús Navarro and guitarists Julio Ramírez and Gilberto Marín, had already won a Latin Grammy for Best Pop Album by a Duo or Group with Vocals for their 2008 record Un Día Más when they started feeling boxed in by the conventions of traditional romantic pop. So they leaned into reggaeton, and it paid off. Collaborations with Nicky Jam, Ozuna, and Maluma produced back to back Billboard Latin chart hits, with "Me Niego" picking up Best Latin Pop Song of the Year at the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards. They even crossed into K pop territory with a collab with Super Junior, which says a lot about how far their reach has stretched since those early days of heavy Mexican radio rotation.
