About
Robert Jan Stips is one of those Dutch musicians whose fingerprints are all over the country's rock history. He made his name as the keyboard player and arranger for Supersister before Golden Earring came calling, and he played on their 1975 album Switch as well as the 1976 follow up To the Hilt. That same year he took part in Golden Earring's American tour, then went on to form his own projects, including Stars & Stips and Sweet d'Buster. He also turned up on Cut, the 1982 Golden Earring record that gave the world 'Twilight Zone'. From 1981 onwards, The Nits became his main home, and he stayed with them through some of their most celebrated work, including the orchestral piece Hjuvi: A Rhapsody in Time, for which he was the lead composer. He also produced three albums for Gruppo Sportivo in the late seventies and early eighties. After leaving The Nits in 1996 he kept busy with solo records, collaborations with comedian Freek de Jonge, and a 2019 revival of Supersister under the name Supersister Projekt 2019, releasing the album Retsis Repus.
