About
Robin Kester is a Groningen born, Rotterdam based Dutch musician whose sound draws comparisons to Beth Gibbons and Weyes Blood, sitting somewhere in the territory of chamber pop, psychedelic rock and electronic textures. She built a reputation steadily through her 2018 EP Peel the Skin and the 2020 mini album This Is Not a Democracy, which was voted best album of the year by the editors of 3voor12. By 2022 she was debuting singles on BBC 6 Music and opening for Muse at Amsterdam Carré, the invitation coming personally from Matt Bellamy. Her debut album Honeycomb Shades arrived in February 2023 and was named best Dutch album of the year by NRC, earning five stars elsewhere and a nomination for the 3voor12 Award. The follow up, Dark Sky Reserve, was recorded in Bristol with producer Ali Chant and features guitarist Adrian Utley of Portishead, with horn and string arrangements broadening her characteristic sound. De Volkskrant gave it the full five stars, and OOR noted that after just a few albums Kester has already developed a signature style very much her own.
