About
Rodney Crowell wrote songs for half of Nashville before he had a hit of his own. Bob Seger took his "Shame on the Moon" to number two on the pop chart, Crystal Gayle had a country number one with "'Til I Gain Control Again", and Waylon Jennings, the Oak Ridge Boys and Johnny Cash all cut his material. He also spent three years playing guitar and singing in Emmylou Harris's Hot Band, and he leaned on songwriters like Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt. His own breakthrough came with the 1988 album Diamonds & Dirt, which gave him five straight country number ones, including "I Couldn't Leave You If I Tried", "After All This Time" and a cover of Buck Owens' "Above and Beyond". "After All This Time" won the Grammy for Best Country Song in 1990. Decades later, his album Old Yellow Moon took the 2014 Grammy for Best Americana Album. He has also produced records for others, including several by Rosanne Cash.
