About
Roman Candle are an indie rock band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, made up of siblings Skip, Logan, and Timshel Matheny. Their big break came with "The Wee Hours Revue," a record that went through a wild journey: recorded with producer Chris Stamey (known for his work with Yo La Tengo and R.E.M.), shelved by Hollywood Records for two years, then picked up by V2 and finally released in 2006 to real acclaim, landing at number 38 on Paste Magazine's top 100 albums of that year. BBC Radio 2 legend Bob Harris called it one of the best rock and roll records he'd heard in years, and the band earned repeat invitations to play his show. Their third album, "Oh Tall Tree in the Ear" (2009), took its title from Rainer Maria Rilke's Sonnets to Orpheus, which tells you something about where their heads are at. They've shared stages with Iron and Wine, The Avett Brothers, Aimee Mann, and The Psychedelic Furs, and even played Radio City Music Hall. Their fourth album, "Debris," arrived in 2013, with the Nashville Scene praising its mix of wit and unabashed romanticism.
